Merck Millipore has launched the Clarisolve depth filter for single-stage clarification of pretreated feed streams.
Clarisolve is a novel clarification device with a gradient density structure specifically designed to the particle size distributions of pretreated feed streams.
Delivering improved volumetric capacity and reduced turbidity, the filters process pretreated feeds in a significantly reduced footprint without the need for the secondary stage of clarification.
Using Clarisolve eliminates the need for centrifugation which enables implementation of a fully single-use process train, and also considerably reduces the pre-use flushing requirements.
The technology was developed to address the shortcomings of traditional downstream clarification approaches when processing high cell density and high-product titer cell cultures.
Merck Millipore has also developed a cationic pDADMAC (poly diallyldimenthyl ammonium chloride) flocculation reagent targeted for biopharmaceutical applications, which can be used as a pretreatment in combination with the Clarisolve depth filters.
pDADMAC treatment, in combination with Clarisolve depth filters, provides an effective solution for harvesting high cell density cultures and can be easily incorporated into current clarification platforms.
