YSI Life Sciences has released Glycerol, its latest chemistry for use on the YSI 2700, 2900 and 7100 analysers.
The detection range is 0.75 – 40 g/L with a 10uL injection.
Precision is 3% at calibration point, and results are available in one minute or less.
All three of the above mentioned analysers use the YSI Gold Standard sensor technology, with the 2900 being the latest and most modern addition to the range, released in late 2011.
The 2900 has many technical innovations, such as integrated auto sampler, 96 well plate capability, anti-clogging mechanisms and on-board training videos.
Glycerol, or Glycerine, is a colourless, odourless, sweet-tasting, syrupy liquid, 60% as sweet as sucrose, and is a byproduct of saponification in soap making or transesterification in biodiesel production.
Glycerol has numerous uses throughout the Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Personal Care industries.
In the Food and Beverage industry alone, Glycerol is invaluable as a production ingredient – it is used as a desiccant, sweetener, filler in low-fat foods, and as a thickening agent.
Glycerol has a lower glycemic index than sugar and also does not feed the plaque forming bacteria that causes dental cavities, making it a sugar substitute in ‘no added sugar’ drinks.
In Pharmaceutical and Personal Care applications, Glycerol is used as a lubricant in cough syrups, tooth, skin and hair care products. It is also serves as a holding agent for certain tablets.
