MVA Scientific Consultants will address the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) at its 58th annual scientific meeting in Seattle, WA on 21-26 February 2006
Each year professionals from around the world attend the event to present the most current information, research, and updates in the expanding field of Forensic Science.
Over 500 scientific papers, breakfast seminars, workshops, and other special events are presented at the meeting.
James Millette, senior research scientist, co-founder and executive director at MVA Scientific Consultants, will address the Engineering Sciences section of the AAFS on Thursday 23 February 2006 with his presentation entitled 'Microscopical analysis of dusts from disasters: natural and manmade'.
The presentation will focus on the emerging practice of environmental forensic microscopy and its role in addressing issues that result from catastrophic events.
MVA Scientific Consultants was among the first to formally develop environmental forensic microscopy as a way to address fugitive dust and emissions and to determine their source.
Since then the practice has had a tremendous impact on environmental laws and many precedent-setting legal cases.
Renowned for his works in environmental science, Millette is an 11-year veteran of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), subcommittee vice chair with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and a distinguished author of over 100 scientific papers, books and articles.
He has led or been involved with the analysis and characterisation of air, water, and dust particulates throughout the United States, contaminated soil in South America, fly ash in Asia, and asbestos-containing materials throughout North America.
He has advised leaders from corporate America to Congress, and is a leading authority on WTC dust - the designation for particulate matter resulting from the destruction of the World Trade Centre in New York.
