Velocity11 has announced a new configuration of its BioCel sample-processing platform configured to automate DNA purification and sequencing procedures
The demand for quick and reliable DNA sample preparation has risen dramatically over recent years.
The long and complex pipetting protocols needed for DNA preparation present a challenge for many laboratory automation systems.
Velocity11 has designed a new BioCel configuration that addresses these challenges using an automation system built around its unique VPrep - high-speed precision pipetting technology.
With its versatile shelf configuration options, the VPrep is ideally suited for complex pipetting sequences, while at the same time achieving very high throughput.
The BioCel system with its powerful dynamic scheduling software, high speed central robot and the ability to simply integrate third-party instruments allows for unprecedented throughput.
Using three VPrep pipettors, the source plate with DNA is split into two copies.
The copied DNA is purified using magnetic beads, ethanol washing steps and magnetic nesting pads.
The system then automatically adds primer cocktail to the plates, which are then centrifuged, sealed and stored in an incubator at 4C.
The system can process up to 200 plates unattended, in only four hours, utilising the high speed of the BioCel combined with the powerful dynamic scheduling software, VWorks.
In addition the automated process eliminates sources of sample contamination and the highest possible quality of sequencing preparations is ensured.
The BioCel is one of the most compact and rapid automated sample processing systems on the market.
It is capable of automating a wide range of applications, spanning from compound plate replication and HTS assays in drug discovery research to nucleic acid sample preparation in genomics laboratories.
