Caltex Oil (Thailand), a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, has invested over 200 million baht in a new system to help guarantee the purity of its fuel products offered at its service stations
Fuel samples will be taken from the service stations periodically by independent inspectors from Intertek Caleb Brett, a leading international testing and inspection services provider, to check and confirm that the fuel is not contaminated or mixed with other fuel from unidentified sources.
The fuel markers are invisible additives and serve as a 'fuel DNA' that allows independent inspectors to check the purity of the fuel and verify that no mixing or contamination was done to it as it passed through the supply chain after leaving the refinery and Caltex's oil terminals.
Regular and random audits will be performed on-site at various key areas of the supply chain to confirm compliance to Caltex's stringent quality specifications.
Under the programme, before the base fuel leaves the refinery, its quality is analysed to make sure it complies with Caltex's and the Energy Ministry's specifications.
It is then rechecked on arrival at the Bangkok Terminal before being discharged into storage tanks.
At the Bangkok Terminal's loading rack, Caltex's fuel markers and proprietary additives are injected into the fuel prior to delivery to Caltex service stations.
When the fuel arrives at the service station, it is checked and verified again before being stored at the site.
Special seals are affixed to storage tanks to prevent unauthorised access.
