James Michael Brooks, president and CEO of the Indiana Health Industry Forum, is the newest member of the Health Informatics Programme Advisory Board with the Indiana University School of Informatics
Brooks will be among more than 30 experts who advise the School on its strategic direction, curriculum, research and advancement.
The board includes representatives from a broad spectrum of the health-care community, including government, research, medicine, information technology and medical device manufacturers.
"Mike Brooks has vast experience in leading economic development initiatives at both the community and state level and we welcome the expertise he brings to the table," said School of Informatics dean Michael Dunn.
"At IHIF, he leads an organization that serves as a catalyst and an advocate for initiatives that advance the state's health-related enterprises." Brooks was appointed to head IHIF in July 2005.
The not-for-profit, private sector organization, and its members represent a private and public alliance of manufacturers, suppliers, educational institutions, health care providers, service providers and government.
Prior to his IHIF appointment, Brooks was associate vice president for research and economic development and director of Innovation Campus at Utah State University.
While in that state, he was appointed to serve on the governor's economic development advisory board and was a member of the Association of University Research Parks, Utah Information Technology Alliance and the Utah Alliance for Economic Development.
From 1990 to 2004, he was president of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Economic Development Corp.
Before that position, he served in various leadership positions with the chambers of commerce in Bloomington, Mount Vernon and Kokomo.
Brooks was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 2004 by then-governor Joe Kerman.
In 2003, he was named the outstanding economic development executive by the Indiana Economic Development Association.
