William Matthews, information officer for medical, regulatory and product teams at Eli Lilly, joins the Health Informatics programme advisory board at the Indiana University School of Informatics
He will be among more than 30 experts who advise the school on its strategic direction, curriculum, research and advancement.
The board includes representatives from a broad spectrum of the health-care community, including government, research, medicine, information technology and medical device manufacturers.
Matthews, who assumed his position at Lilly in May 2004, is responsible for global information technology for medical and regulatory.
He was named information officer of the global infrastructure in 2000 and oversaw network planning, computing, data, help desk operations and security for Lilly's global information technology.
Matthews has held a number of other positions with Lilly since joining the company in 1980, including manager of production services in Lafayette, Ind., manager of corporate recruitment, and as a manager responsible for clinical trial systems, where he worked closely with early product teams.
A 1975 graduate of Purdue University, where he received his undergraduate degree in industrial management, Matthews went on to earn a master's in business administration from the University of Michigan.
He currently serves on the Purdue University department of computer sciences corporate partners programme, and has held positions on the Information Technology Board of Marion County and the Techpoint Foundation Board.
