Don Braggins has been re-elected to the executive committee of the European Machine Vision Association (Emva) at the recently held 4th European Machine Vision Business Conference in Tampere, Finland
In addition, Don Braggins received a special award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in building up Emva.
Braggins commented: "Ukiva was one of the founder members of Emva and I am delighted to have made a contribution to the success of Emva".
Emva was set up to create a unique networking framework for the entire European Machine Vision industry.
It provides an official forum for European machine vision experts to exchange ideas and experiences.
The establishment of a Europe-wide network of contacts has progressed smoothly and Emva now has 72 members from 18 nations.
"Our other chief objective", he continued, "was to create a channel of communication both between member companies and between Emva and individual national vision associations such as Ukiva".
Such has been the success of this strategy that it has led to Emva working on two standards for cameras used in the industry, the 1288 standard and the GenIcam standard.
1288 standardises the way camera characteristics are measured and described.
It will allow components from different manufacturers to be compared like-for-like.
The recently announced GenICam standard provides a generic programming interface for all kinds of cameras.
No matter what interface technology (GigE Vision, Camera Link, 1394 DCam, etc) they are using or what features they are implementing, the application programming interface (API) should be always the same, making it easier for users to 'mix and match' cameras and framegrabbers or processors from differing sources.
"I look forward to another three years on the Emva committee", he concluded.
