National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism - laboratory of neurogenetics protected by Franek Technologies.
Franek Technologies has installed more than 125 certified, instrumentation-specific laboratory power protection systems at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and five in the Laboratory of Neurogenetics (LNG) at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) in Rockville, MD, USA.
As a result of these installations, key instrumentation within the NIH's NIAAA, valued at over $2million, is now protected against power fluctuations or failure that could otherwise cause loss of samples and data, costly damage to instrumentation, as well as significant lost productive time.
Franek Technologies' engineering team provided consultation and design of power protection systems for such highly-sensitive instrumentation as: Applied Biosystems Prism 3100 genetic analyser and 3730 DNA analysers; Thermo Electron's molecular biology (Hybaid) Multiblock PCR systems; and Tecan's Genesis Freedom workstation.
These instrumentation systems are integral to providing the high-throughput solution for protein purification using His Tag and GST Tag technologies, which the NIAAA desired.
The NIAAA is currently working with Franek Technologies on a number of other laboratory applications.
The Laboratory of Neurogenetics (LNG) relies on extremely sophisticated instrumentation to conduct high-throughput genotyping research to identify determinants contributing to alcohol abuse.
Such instrumentation and highly leveraged robotic automation is highly sensitive to uncontrolled environmental conditions, such as power fluctuations or interruptions.
Prior to the installation of Franek Technologies' instrumentation-specific power protection, the LNG had experienced multiple power fluctuations and outages caused by brown-outs and black-outs.
With Franek Technologies' power protection solutions, the laboratory is now able to protect every DNA sample collected and ensure that test runs, including tests that run for up to 12 hours, will continue even should a power outage occur.
Due to the risk such irregular power conditions pose and with summer approaching, the laboratory sought the higher-level of power protection provided by Franek Technologies.
