Symrise selected Franek Technologies to safeguard its $600,000 investment in analytical research instrumentation at its flavour research analysis laboratory in Totowa, New Jersey
After the US east coast blackouts in August 2003, which cost the flavour analysis laboratory significant instrumentation repair expense and lost productive time, Symrise decided it could not place itself in jeopardy of power fluctuations and failure again.
Symrise sought experts in laboratory and instrumentation power protection and selected Franek Technologies as the leading provider.
With Franek Technologies instrumentation-specific power protection solutions, the flavour analysis laboratory now protects its mission critical instrumentation from power-related damage; thereby, protecting the integrity of its analytical equipment to produce results that are true and compliant.
Symrise relies on complex analysis of raw materials and finished goods to help provide its customers with products that perform better, at lower cost, and that are innovative, safe, and environmentally friendly.
Critical tests performed at the flavour analysis laboratory include screening for pesticide residues and other materials that can occur as contaminants in ingredients.
Many of the tests performed within the laboratory run overnight or span multiple days.
Due to these long run-times, uninterrupted operation is imperative since power glitches cause data loss, lost productivity, and can damage expensive analytical equipment.
Franek Technologies's certified solutions for Symrise included added run time battery backup systems to provide 100% corrected and conditioned power to mission critical instrumentation for extended power loss ride through in the event of any type of power interruptions, lasting from milli-seconds to nearly one hour.
Franek Technologies LPS solutions currently protect nine highly leveraged instrumentation systems at Symrise, including the analytical equipment, associated computer systems that acquire and interpret data, as well as support accessories and internet communications.
This completely integrated systems protection capability is unique to Franek Technologies.
The protected systems include GC (gas chromatographs), HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography), MS (mass spectroscopy), GC/MSD, GC-AED instrumentation, automated extraction units, and hydrogen generators from Agilent, Shimadzu, and Dionex.
The engineering team at Franek Technologies worked closely with the flavour analysis laboratory to optimise the layout of the laboratory with respect to how each instrumentation system would be supported.
Together they achieved an optimum load distribution within the laboratory for maximum efficiency and value, which exceeds all instrument manufacturers' specifications for each piece of protected equipment.
"One of the real values of working with Franek Technologies, aside from their engineering expertise and catalog of certified designs, was the ease of installation.
"Each LPS system was delivered with labeling on the LPS that matched a corresponding label on the bench top power distribution box, all tying back to the quote and engineering specification sheets.
"Plus, every unit was pre-programmed for the load that it would carry," explained John Walradt, director, research analysis, Symrise.
"Installation was truly plug-and-play.
"We couldn't be more pleased with our relationship with Franek Technologies".
