Anton Paar has published an application note on the use of its refractometers in the determination of the acetic acid content in water.
Acetic acid is a common and widely used colourless, liquid carboxylic acid that can be used as preservative, seasoning and in chemical industry.
Its quality as well as its mass percentage in water can be determined using refractometry.
Conventional determination of the acetic acid content in water is done by titration, which is a slow, time-consuming process.
Enzyme assays are also used, although this is a rare and relatively expensive method, to determine acetic acid in water.
All Abbemat refractometers from Anton Paar directly show the acetic acid content in water (g/100 g) within seconds in the range of 0-99.8 g/100 g and using only small amounts of the samples.
Models also feature built-in Peltier temperature control with an accuracy of up to ± 0.03 °C.
