Anton Paar has published an Application Report detailing the use of its MCP polarimeter series in the polarimetric determination of starch content in products.
Starch is the most important carbohydrate in human nutrition and one of the most abundant substances in nature. As a polysaccharide of plant origin, it functions as a glucose store in the roots or seeds of plants. Plants with a high starch content that are important for human nutrition are grains of cereals, corn or rice, as well as potatoes and cassava. Besides its indispensable function in worldwide nourishment, starch is a renewable resource and essential in the production of many products, such as:
- Paper, glues, textile, photo products
- Colours, concrete, gypsum, adhesives, plastics
- Soups, sauces, puddings, baked goods, confectionery products, mayonnaises, cereal products, cocoa powder
