Chiltern International, a global clinical research organisation, has strengthened its medical department with the appointment of Adrian Quartel as its new UK medical director
Quartel is based at the company's Slough headquarters and will be responsible for building the current medical functions into a European medical department.
Besides the medical management at the clinical research unit, this will involve strengthening and expanding the pharmacovigilance department and focussing on medical and scientific services in the clinical development department.
Quartel will also focus on providing medical and scientific services to the sponsors' product development and product life cycle management plans.
"I am looking forward to taking a leading role in the supply of medical services throughout Chiltern's UK and other European operations," Quartel commented.
"My aim is to ensure that high quality and timely medical support is available internally and as required by our sponsors.
"As medical professionals in the CRO industry, we always aim to add value to our sponsors' drug development programmes.
"I believe Chiltern's understanding of both the intricacies of clinical development and the needs of pharmaceutical companies, in their drive to develop and bring new drugs to market, can be invaluable".
Joining the company with more than a decade of medical experience, Quartel has previously worked in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery in the Netherlands and America before he moved into the pharmaceutical field as a study manager.
His last position was as European medical affairs manager for Astellas Europe in Staines, UK.
"Chiltern has grown significantly over the past few years and this has brought new opportunities and demands," said Lewis Cameron, president of Chiltern International's European operations.
"Adrian will be instrumental in building our European medical department and fully integrating it into our global clinical operations".
Established in 1982, Chiltern is one of the largest independent contract research organisations in the world and has extensive experience of running international Phase I to Phase IV clinical trials across a broad therapeutic range with a wide variety of clients.
Chiltern employs more than 800 people worldwide, with locations in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, India, South Africa and across the USA.
Chiltern provides clinical operations, project management, bio-analytical, data management, biostatistics, medical writing, quality assurance, regulatory and medical affairs services as well as clinical contract personnel services.
