In its 50th anniversary year, Scientific and Chemical (SciChem) has embarked on a substantial investment programme at its headquarters and main storage and distribution centre in Bilston West Midlands
Scientific and Chemical (SciChem) has achieved a number of high-profile business gains in the past three months and as part of its five-year plan it is initially increasing its storage and distribution capability to over 4600m2, following the acquisition of adjacent premises.
Explains Brian Cartland, managing director, "The past 12 months have been significant in the company's development and our strategy has always included the acquisition of adjoining property, as it became available, as part of our development plan for the site.
"Fortunately, the opportunity to expand has coincided with our business growth and we have been able to move quickly in acquiring the adjoining premises and turning them into an essential part of our facility to meet growing capacity needs.
"It is vital for the business that we are able to respond quickly and efficiently to our customers' requirements and by carrying a carefully managed stock profile we can address both current and future requirements.
"The additional space has allowed a more logical flow process from our goods inwards, through order picking and finally to despatch, increasing our efficiency and speeding deliveries.
"Our supply of scientific and chemical equipment is not limited to the UK and Republic of Ireland, but it takes in International distribution as far afield as south east Asia, Australasia and the Middle East as well as to mainland Europe.
"It is essential the company keeps reviewing its strategic investment in both its storage and distribution capabilities to maintain its leading reputation within the industry," added Brian Cartland.
