Carl Zeiss MicroImaging donates US$2500 and a Zeiss microscope for the 7th Annual Westchester science and engineering fair (Wesef) which was held on Saturday 17 March 2007
Approximately 140 students from a total of 24 different schools across Westchester County, NY entered projects.
Wesef students are from local high schools, and have a particular passion for science and engineering.
They are hard-working students, many of which have spent summers, vacations and afternoons in the lab to work on their research.
Not for money, nor prestige, but for the rare passion: the thrill of scientific discovery.
Most of these students have worked with leading scientists at world-class research institutions for a year or more.
The top eight individual projects and up to four teams from Wesef will represent our region at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (isef) in May.
They will join over 1500 high school science students from 50 countries to compete for over $1 million in scholarships and other awards.
To show its continued commitment to science education, Carl Zeiss MicroImaging donated a stereo microscope DR 16/63 as a prize for the competition plus two Carl Zeiss employees, Lindsey Rima and Sven Schirm volunteered as judges for the event.
In addition, a contribution of $2500 was made towards co-sponsoring the Wesef finalists' celebration banquet at the Crabtree Kittle House in Chappaqua on Thursday 29 March 2007.
