BSI Product Services provides testing and certification services for PPE manufacturers to help them gain Kitemark certification or CE mark for riot, fire, emergency, and sport helmets and eyewear
BSI Product Services has just designed and installed a new, bespoke testing rig to be used for high impact testing of protective eyewear and a range of helmets.
The rig, installed in the PPE (personal protective equipment) laboratory in Hemel Hempstead, is now completely operational having undergone the necessary rigorous tests and calibrations.
BSI Product Services has a long history of providing testing and certification services for PPE manufacturers helping them to gain the coveted Kitemark certification or the mandatory CE mark for a range of riot, fire, emergency, sport and pilot helmets and eye wear.
This new rig will mean that BSI Product Services can step forward and lead the way in eye wear and helmet impact testing, something that is becoming more and more relevant with the London 2012 Olympics approaching as well as the ever increasing focus on workplace health and safety.
The new rig will provide BSI with the ability to impact test eye protectors and visors in a range between 12m/s-1 to 190m/s-1.
The new equipment will also allow BSI to accommodate the testing of the new style tall helmets that encompass ventilation and cooling components.
With this new rig comes the ability to adapt the existing one to carry out dedicated work on squash ball impact testing.
The barrel and associated dedicated sensors are interchangeable and so are fit and ready for this purpose.
"This will mean that we can provide squash goggle manufacturers with a dedicated rig for their testing".
"With Health and Safety as well as risk management issues continually attracting more attention, we believe that we now have the range of testing equipment necessary to provide a comprehensive service to our clients in this field" says Guy Huxtable, product manager, engineering at BSI Product Services
