The Chemical Business Association (CBA) has appointed Mike Smith, Norkem, as its president and Francis Osborn, Industrial Suppliers (Wimborne) as its vice chairman
Mike Smith is chairman of Norkem Holdings and a former chairman of the Chemical Business Association (2002-2004).
He has been a member of its council since 1997, is a current member of its Responsible Care committee and chaired the association's strategy group in 2005.
He is the driving force behind Chemicroc - an on-line environment designed to give primary school pupils an interest in chemistry and science.
Norkem is a major European stockist, distributor, and producer of speciality and general chemicals for the industrial, pharmaceutical, food and animal feed industries.
With operations in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia, and China, the company has over sixty employees and annual sales in excess of £50 million.
Francis Osborn is managing director, Industrial Suppliers (Wimborne), and has been a member of CBA council since 1999.
He is a member of the executive committee of the association and serves on its membership and communications committee.
He is a director of Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry serving the organisation in a range of capacities over the last twenty years.
He is a former chairman of the Environmental Forum for Dorset Industry and from 1998 to 2001 was chairman of the governors of a further education college.
He has also been active in local government affairs.
Industrial Suppliers (Wimborne) distributes industrial chemicals and solvents in the south of England in addition to providing blending and contract packing services.
