Kelloggs is benefiting from a new version of Environmental Science's WASPS (Workplace Action Safety Protection Sheets) which is delivering legal compliance results that save time and money
The busy safety professional has many jobs some more pleasurable than others says Eamon Boyle the Plant Safety Advisor of Kellogg of GB.
Boyle reckons that few if any enjoy the tiresome chore of legal compliance in fields that may not be their speciality or within their comfort zone.
So it is a joy when he came across a software package that delivers the results promised and at a reasonable cost both financially and in time.
Environmental Science (ESL) has for some time provided a package entitled WASPS (Workplace Action Safety Protection Sheets) to the Health, Safety and Environmental Professional.
The latest edition Version 2 moves this forward to a system that is not only easy to use but also provides a library of generic chemicals and processes.
Following the format of COSHH Essentials but with a more detailed result and a finished work sheet with colour coded rating bars and graphic symbols that are not only pleasing to the eye but are also informative to the end user.
To start a worksheet, an MSDS is required to fill in the (1) physical properties, (2) material classification and (3 ) risk factors which should be provided by the MSDS.
Or you can use one of the WASP sheets already in the database in either the ESL chemical substance or propriety generic library.
At present this is approaching 2000 WASP files in the library.
This produces the Hazard worksheet that is the permanent record, which can be personalised and printed.
The full COSHH assessments require a WASP worksheet with the exposure time and a description of the process all of which is easy to use and easy to understand.
All this with a good help/instruction page and a friendly support staff at the end of a telephone make this a pleasure to use to fulfil a legal requirement with the minimum of fuss.
Boyle commented: "I recommend this simple but comprehensive system to anyone".
Trial versions of the package are available on CD or from the ESL website.
