Centice has expanded its patent portfolio with the recent patent award for a 'Rapid Pharmaceutical Verification and Identification System'
This patent (US Patent No 7,218,395) describes a fully automated pharmaceutical identification and verification system that operates through a prescription vial or bottle without requiring cap removal/replacement, while providing superior verification speeds with higher accuracy.
"We are very pleased with the award of this patent.
"This patent is based upon the use of our previously patented multimodal multiplex sensor platform technology," said Prasant Potuluri, CTO of Centice.
"This patent award demonstrates the applicability of Centice's core sensor technology to solve significant real-world problems.
"The Pass Rx pharmaceutical authentication sensor system, planned for 2008 availability, will improve patient safety by enhancing the quality assurance process for dispensed medications," said Ray Swanson, Centice president and CEO.
Centice designs and manufactures computational sensors which enable a new generation of high sensitivity molecular spectrometers and analysers.
Centice is the exclusive licensee of the coded optical sensor technology first developed at Duke University under NIH and Darpa grants for tissue spectroscopy and spectroscopic imaging.
To date, the company has five issued patents and 12 filed patent applications.
