Pipework from Durapipe UK is being used in hospitals up and down the UK as an integral part of a new Autoscope Isis machine
Durapipe ABS and Vulcathene pipework were specified for the machine, known as an automated endoscope reprocessor, which is made by Labcaire, a supplier and manufacturer of hospital and laboratory health and safety equipment.
The unit is designed to thoroughly clean and disinfect endoscopes - the small, thin, flexible surgical instruments doctors use to carry out internal inspections on hospital patients.
The high quality plastic pipework is being used to convey fluids inside the latest version of the machines.
Endoscopes are loaded into the machine to undergo a thorough 20 minute cleaning process.
In each of the machines, ABS pipework carries cold water and detergent for the initial detergent wash process and Vulcathene chemical drainage pipework is then used to carry the pathology waste that results from the washing and disinfectant cycles.
The Autoscope Isis spent two years in development and is now used in 13 hospitals across the UK, with many more set to install the machine during 2008.
A spokesperson for Labcaire said: "This is a very high specification machine, which needs to have the highest standards of performance to ensure excellent hygiene and safety.
"Durapipe provided us with expert knowledge and the most suitable pipework - Durapipe ABS and Vulcathene are ideal because they are reliable, limescale and corrosion resistant, and meet the highest international standards and approvals."
