Bio-Rad Laboratories launches the Gene Transfer Game, developed by BioCompare - the online buyer's guide for life scientists - to create awareness of Bio-Rad's range of gene transfer solutions and collect protocols from scientists.
The Gene Transfer Game takes place in a tissue culture flask where the players 'shoot' cells and special characters with their 'weapon' of choice: the Bio-Rad Gene Pulser MXcell system, the Bio-Rad Helios Gene Gun, the siLenctfect Lipid Reagent, or a virus.
Each weapon creates a unique effect.
Special characters are encountered along the way to add to the score.
Each day, the highest scoring player wins a prize - an Upregulated or Downregulated T-shirt.
T-shirts may also be earned by submitting a gene transfer protocol.
Gene transfer is a general term used to denote transfection or transformation.
Bio-Rad offers several tools for gene transfer including electroporation, lipid-mediated delivery and particle delivery.
Electroporation is a valuable tool for nucleic acid delivery because it can be used for a wide variety of cell types, in particular, primary cells and cells that are difficult to transfect.
Lipid-mediated delivery is widely used for mammalian cells, and is quite easy to use.
Particle delivery is especially useful for plant tissues.
