Herbert Pollmann, an authority on geosciences and mineralogy, provided the keynote presentation at the recent seminar 'Applications of X-ray diffraction and fluorescence in building materials' seminar
The event, jointly organised by Panalytical and DKSH Technology, was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 2 and 3 April 2008.
Pollmann, from the Martin Luther University in Germany, provided a fascinating insight into the subject of crystallography and building materials analysis.
His various talks also encompassed many other important topics relating to the use of X-ray technology in the building industry.
The seminar proved very popular, with attendee feedback on the event highly positive.
Peter Munk, marketing manager, Panalytical, commented: "We were very pleased to welcome such high caliber speakers to our seminar.
"Panalytical has a strong focus on the analysis needs of the global building materials industry and this seminar demonstrates our commitment to the sector.
"Recently, X-ray analysis has advanced from its roots in the research laboratory to applications in process and quality control.
"It is now regarded as one of the most powerful process-control tools for building materials".
Pollmann and Panalytical cement specialists from around the world gave presentations covering a wide range of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) applications and techniques.
The agenda also included a practical session on the use of X'Pert HighScore Plus and X'Pert Industry software packages.
These powerful modules are part of Panalytical's XML-based software range for XRD data collection and analysis.
X'Pert HighScore Plus combines phase identification, crystallographic analysis, cluster analysis and Rietveld calculations in a single package.
X'Pert Industry enables the automation of XRD for production and quality control.
