ALcontrol Laboratories says its allergen seminar, held at its Rotherham site, was a resounding success and attracted the interest of over 50 delegates from the food industry
ALcontrol professionals spoke alongside guest speakers and a wide range of topics were covered, from 'What allergens are and where they come from', to 'Allergens and food labelling and what the future may hold'.
ALcontrol invited Phil Goodwin of Diagnostic Innovations who gave a detailed and technical illustration of the testing of allergens.
He was joined by Geoff Brown, managing director of consulting and technical services at NSF-CMi, who gave an informative dialogue covering risk assessment and auditing specifically in relation to allergens.
David Waller, sales director, ALcontrol Laboratories, commented: "We're all really pleased to see such great interest in the seminar from within the food industry, something which shows just how important and current the allergen topic is at the moment.
"The feedback we have received from the delegates has been extremely positive and everyone seems to have found the various presentations very interesting and useful.
"It has also provided a good opportunity for people to take a look at the labs at Rotherham and get a better understanding of the services ALcontrol offers.
"A great day all round".
With allergic reactions and food intolerance on the increase and the introduction of recent legislation, this area of testing is growing rapidly and it is set to continue.
Manufacturers are now required to declare the presence of any one of 14 allergens in their products and the market for food free from these is expanding.
ALcontrol is now able to assist manufacturers in this area with Ukas accredited analysis and expert advice.
