GE Healthcare has opened voting for its annual IN Cell Image Competition.
Voters can choose from a shortlist of 30 images generated by the IN Cell Analyzer system.
The shortlist was selected by a panel of scientists in November from more than 80 entries.
Voting is open until 5 January 2009.
On 8 January, votes will be counted and three winners will be selected, one from North America, one from Europe and one from Asia.
Each winner wins a trip to New York City, where their images will be shown on NBC's high-definition television screen in Times Square.
The competition is supported by Biotechniques.
The IN Cell Analyzer is a High Content Analysis (HCA) system used to study cellular processes in their true biological context.
The images generated by the system are used for research and drug discovery and cover applications including cancer, neurology, cardiology, drug development, diabetes, obesity, immunology and dermatology.
One of last year's IN Cell Competition winners, Kymmy Lorrain of Brain Cells, produced an image of human cortical neural stem cells from a study into depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
