The Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA), a non-profit scientific association, has announced the winner of the Labautomation2009 USD10,000 ALA Innovation Award.
Hyongsok (Tom) Soh PhD, University of California, Santa Barbara, was honoured for his podium presentation 'High Performance Magnetic Separation in Microfluidic Channels'.
The ALA Innovation Award recognises that year's top ten finalists, which present innovative laboratory technologies or new and useful technology advances and applications as podium presentations.
Now in its third year, ALA's 'New Product Award (NPA) Designation' recognised the top three outstanding new products showcased on the Labautomation2009 exhibit floor.
This year's winners were: Agilent Technologies for the Agilent Direct Drive Robot, Genefluidics for the Proteus Robotic System and Mettler Toledo for the Quantos QB1.
ALA also announced the winners of the Student Poster Awards Competition: first place went to Vinu Venkatraman, Portland State University, for 'Iridium Oxide Nanomonitors for Real-Time Health Monitoring Systems'; second place went to Raghunandan M Kainkaryam from the University of Michigan for 'PoolMC: Smart Pooling of mRNA Samples in Microarray Experiments'; and third place went to Nicholas G Batz, Saint Louis University, for 'Selective Detection of Endogenous Thiols using Microchip-Based Flow Analysis and Mercury/Gold Amalgams Microelectrodes'.
