Metrohm has introduced a stainless steel version of the 844 UV/VIS Compact IC, complete with a column oven.
It can use photometric detection to assay many pharmaceutical or food/beverage-based products.
One such application is the analysis of caffeine in over-the-counter tablets.
It can use a phosphate/methanol mobile phase to perform isocratically.
Analysis of tablets is relatively simple: one tablet is solved in a known quantity of ultrapure water and run against a previously recorded caffeine-calibration curve.
The IC Net controlling software can detect caffeine on the Prontosil C18 column in less than six minutes and at a wavelength of 280nm.
