Simple spectrophotometer for researchers in molecular biology/biotech disciplines who are working with DNA or proteins derived from bacteria or yeasts
WPA (now part of the Biochrom group of companies) has developed an easy-to-use spectrophotometer designed with the molecular biologist in mind.
The Biowave is a simple instrument for researchers in molecular biology/biotech disciplines who are working with DNA or proteins derived from bacteria or yeasts, and has four pre-programmed DNA concentration programmes, as well as five for proteins.
All the normal protein methods are available, and can be modified to suit different applications.
It can accept samples as small as 50ul, allowing the use of ultra micro cuvettes where sample is in short supply and because the Biowave uses diode array detection technology, there is no need for a cover over the cuvette chamber.
This makes it easier and quicker to get samples in and out of the holder and it also means that the instrument is easy to keep clean - no nasty places for spills to collect.
The user can also store up to 99 calibration curves and output data to a PC using the free software that is included with the instrument.
This allows scans to be collected, overlaid and manipulated using Excel.
The new optical layout gives the user the ability to scan over the entire range (200 - 820nm) more quickly than on any other instrument.
The whole scan can be displayed on the large screen in graphical form.
