Staten Island University Hospital is trialling the Ultimate labelling system from Episys in a bid to increase patient safety in the administration of drug dispensing.
If successful, the hospital plans to implement the Episys solution across both campuses.
Michael Coyne, associate vice-president at Staten Island University Hospital, said: 'We intend to trial the Episys Ultimate solution for the preparation of anaesthetic syringes in the operating theatre.
'When labels are produced, they are placed on the vial or ampoule readily available to label the syringe when the drug is drawn.
'An unlabelled syringe can be extremely dangerous,' he added.
