Mettler Toledo has provided titration for the Givaudan perfume company to automate a process in which samples are dissolved and heated to reflux temperature in the presence of potassium hydroxide.
Givaudan worked with Mettler Toledo to design a solution that replaced the flasks used for manual analysis by COD tubes, allowing the sample to be directly weighed into the tube before the introduction of the solvent and potassium hydroxide.
The tube is then placed in the automatic sample changer and the Mettler Toledo DL53 then only has to assay the fraction of potassium hydroxide not consumed and calculate the saponification index.
The company also supplied the Rondo 60 automatic sample changer.
