Takara Bio will use Roche Diagnostics' melting-curve analysis technology and SYBR Green techniques in its kits and instruments for real-time PCR, after the two companies signed a licensing deal.
Under the terms of the agreement, Takara has obtained from Roche a non-exclusive licence for use on instruments in Japan and a licence for worldwide use in kits used for research.
The agreement covers reagents and methods using SYBR Green I technology and melting-curve analysis for real-time PCR.
The melting-curve analysis is a technique for analysing PCR products.
After PCR, the resulting PCR product is slowly heated.
Each double-stranded DNA has its own specific melting temperature (Tm), which is defined as the temperature at which 50 per cent of the DNA becomes single stranded.
By measurement of Tm, the DNA can be easily identified.
