Episys has revealed that Neath Port Talbot hospital has implemented the Ultimate labelling system to ensure patient safety in the administration of drug dispensing.
Richard Williams, production manager, pre-packing and labelling units at Neath Port Talbot hospital, said: 'The over-labelling and pre-packing unit for the trust has been centralised at Neath Port Talbot hospital.
'We needed to find a labelling solution that would provide us with a good, safe, stable system with back-up and support where we can call on expert advice if needed,' he added.
The hospital began a selection process and visited the 2009 Global Signage Labelling Convention hosted by Episys, where the hospital had the opportunity to network with other businesses using the Ultimate solution.
Williams said: 'The Ultimate solution is a complete package that we could buy off-the-shelf and then tailor to our needs.
'I also learnt that it was fast becoming the standard system for the industry and we wanted to be a part of that,' he added.
Neath Port Talbot hospital is exploiting the worksheet option in the Ultimate solution as it needs to produce labels and worksheets at the same time.
It was unable to do this with its previous system, which could have left room for error if the wrong labels were attached to the wrong worksheet.
With the Ultimate system, the process is done as a one-stop, single exercise, improving patient safety.
Williams said: 'Security was a very important consideration when selecting the system.
'We wanted a system that the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) would be happy with, and the feedback from other users demonstrated that the MHRA is indeed happy with the Episys Ultimate solution.'
