YSI was asked to help Birmingham Heartlands Hospital with its pathology awareness event as part of the annual National Pathology Awareness week.
The event, 'Meet the scientist', was held at the Birmingham Think Tank Science Museum on 26 October.
The theme for the National Pathology week this year was 'Mother and baby' and, in line with this, the Reichert Bilirubinometer, sold by YSI, was selected by the Heartlands Pathology team to demonstrate point-of-care bilirubin measurement and how it can be used to identify and monitor neonatal jaundice and its treatment.
Benchtop and compact, about the size of a shoe box, the Reichert Bilirubinometer is suitable for complementing equipment in the lab or for point-of-care in the ward.
The event allowed school children and their parents to take part in interactive science experiment, in order to increase their awareness about the role of pathology in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
