Scorpion Vision has launched Scan2Voice, a portable desktop magnifier that enables partially sighted and low-vision users to read printed material and view 3D objects on their computer.
Comprising a portable scanner and software application, it can scan text, make it editable with the included ABBYY FineReader OCR software then read it aloud with one of an array of voices from Acapela and NeoSpeech.
Scan2Voice software enables the user to make their own audio book, in their favourite voice, then play it back as a WAV file.
The 40x magnifying glass, which works on a live video stream, makes it possible to easily navigate around a scanned document or object.
An entire A4 page, such as that of a book, magazine or document, can be scanned in less than one second at a resolution of more than 200 dpi.
This high resolution makes an optical zoom unnecessary.
In its place, the electronic zoom makes navigating around a document easier than moving the document beneath the camera.
