Eminate, a member of the Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), has recently trialled a new low-sodium, no-potassium ingredient at a number of UK supermarkets and food manufacturers.
According to the UK-based company, Soda-Lo is set to reduce the salt content of food in the UK and globally, while retaining a clean label for the same salt flavour.
High salt intakes are a major contributor to high blood pressure, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Products such as Soda-Lo will have a significant impact on the government's public health targets, helping the food industry to reach the 2012 guidelines suggested by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to reduce the average salt intake in the UK from 10g per day to the recommended 6g.
Soda-Lo is 100 per cent sodium chloride; no chemicals or alternative compounds are used in its production.
Roger Carline, chief executive officer of Eminate, believes that the support and advice offered by the NanoKTN and the opportunities delivered at its events, have played a key role in providing a platform to assist in the marketing of the product.
The NanoKTN's primary aim is to encourage and support UK organisations to collaborate and share knowledge with key partners in attractive end-user markets to achieve growth in the UK microtechnology and nanotechnology sectors.
