Bio-Rad Laboratories, manufacturer of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, has launched its Bioplex 2200 Antiphospholipid Syndrome IgG, IgM and IgA kits for use on its 2200 system.
Antiphospholipid Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly produces antibodies to certain blood proteins, causing thrombosis (clotting) within arteries, veins and small blood vessels.
Patients with Antiphospholipid Syndrome are at risk of strokes and heart attacks.
In addition, thrombosis within arteries and veins has the potential to affect other organs, such as the lungs, liver and kidney.
The Bioplex 2200 Antiphospholipid Syndrome IgG, IgM and IgA kits are used as an aid in the diagnosis of this disease by simultaneously detecting two autoantibodies (anti-Cardiolipin and anti-Beta-2 Glycoprotein I).
This approach aims to provide faster and better care for those suffering from the syndrome.
The Bioplex 2200 system is the first and only fully-automated, random access multiplex testing system and provides clinical laboratories with the capability to rapidly process or 'multiplex' multiple individual tests, which are traditionally processed separately, using a single small volume patient sample.
