Intertek is to guard to safety of public swimming waters in the Netherlands for a period of four years.
The Netherlands monitoring and sampling programme helps to determine the water quality of natural swimming waters.
This annual project supports the law on hygiene and the safety of bathing facilities and swimming areas and other natural swimming waters under the control of the Rijkswaterstaat, the executive arm of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
Monitoring water safety and quality runs from April until September every year.
The new Intertek contract for monitoring swimming waters runs for four years, from 2011 until 2014.
During the bathing season, Intertek personnel will travel more than 50,000km, conducting the weekly inspections and sampling of 230 bathing sites.
Swimming water monitoring includes field observations and surface water sampling, with laboratory analyses for bacteriological parameters, including cyanobacteria.
Intertek will also monitor 36 'Blue Flag' beach and marina locations for bathing water quality.
