Fortis Technologies’ technical note describes the analysis of Catecholamines on its silica-based Fortis HILIC column.
The work was carried out as part of the screen for tumours at the Manchester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Retention of dopamine and epinephrine amongst other catecholamines allows the early diagnosis of the tumour allowing surgery to be performed to reduce the fatality risk associated with non treatment.
A Fortis HILIC column is used in this application due to its ability to retain highly polar compounds which struggle in traditional reversed phase, the catecholamines are all well retained by the high surface area, and good sensitivity is achieved in relation to the mobile phase.
