Rainin has released a white paper providing advice to reduce the risk of RSI during pipetting.
’The Ergonomics of Pipetting’ investigates the causes of a number of known causes of Repetitive Strain Injury and looks at reducing risk. It also provides advice on minising the chances of developing such injuries.
The paper follows claims that pipetting is a forceful and repetitive activity, with a strong association between pipetting forces and the occurrence of developing Repetitive Strain Injuries. It alleges that pipetting for just over an hour a day over the course of a year is enough to create a risk that will increase with workload and age.
For many scientists pipetting is an unavoidable daily task, so Rainin’s paper is designed to help users protect themselves by providing the correct facts and advice.
