Bioo Scientific has launched the MaxSignal Amantadine ELISA Test Kit for the detection of amantadine residues in meat (chicken, beef and pork).
Amantadine (Symmetrel) is a drug that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use as an antiviral and an antiparkinsonian drug, and has been used by Chinese poultry farmers to protect birds against avian influenza.
The use of amantadine as a veterinary drug was banned in China following questions about its safety and efficacy, but it has been reported that some poultry farmers continue to use it on chickens to help them survive overcrowded conditions.
The sensitive MaxSignal Amantadine ELISA Test Kit, with detection limits of 0.25 ppb in meat, is based on a competitive colorimetric ELISA assay.
Amantadine residue present in the sample will compete for HRP-conjugated antibodies against amantadine, thereby preventing the Amantadine-HRP from binding to the antibody attached to the well.
The resulting colour intensity, after addition of the HRP substrate (TMB), has an inverse relationship with the concentration of amantadine residue in the sample.
The MaxSignal Amantadine ELISA Test Kit joins Bioo Scientific’s premier line of ELISAs for the detection of veterinary drugs in food and feed samples.
