Anton Paar has launched the Callisto 100, a fully automated, compact, stand-alone Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) tester operated by touchscreen.
The tester comes “ready to go” and contains all required components for operation in accordance with the standard methods.
Testing and results are in full compliance with ASTM D6371, EN 116, EN 16329, IP 309 and JIS K2288. In addition, Callisto 100 can be used for manual cloud and pour point measurements.
Callisto 100 features a newly developed state-of-the-art Peltier element concept which allows the connection of an inexpensive methanol-free cooling system.
Just a small chiller system with antifreeze that has a cooling capacity at -20°C of 220 Watt is sufficient, the company claims.
With this cooling device, Callisto 100 can measure samples with a CFPP value below -35°C. As well as enhancing laboratory safety by removing methanol based systems, it also ensures outstanding homogeneity of the cooling jacket.
All diesel fuels contain wax and when the temperature of the fuel decreases, wax crystals will begin to precipitate. If enough wax precipitates, these crystals can block the fuel flow through screens, filters and other restricted passages in the fuel system.
The tendency of a fuel to plug screens and filters at low temperature is a dynamic property dependent on the size and shape of the wax crystals.
It affects engine and vehicle design and the fuel system configuration. To evaluate the plugging tendency of diesel fuel, dynamic test methods for low temperature operability have been developed as European standard methods and these are known as the CFPP methods.
By definition the CFPP value is the highest temperature at which a given volume of fuel fails to pass through a standardised filtration device in a specified time when cooled under standardised conditions.
This test gives an estimate for the lowest temperature at which a fuel should give trouble-free flow and helps refineries to optimise their production process when producing different diesel products (e.g. summer diesel and winter diesel).
Product features:
- Pre-programmed standard test methods and the ability to create and store up to 90 individual user programmes.
- Large colour display indicates the sample and jacket temperatures in real time.
- Contact-free infrared detection technology.
- For high sample throughput, there is a storage place at the rear of the instrument to hold a second complete filtration unit.
- Programmable automated cleaning routine can be initiated at the push of a button.
