Highly accurate temperature measurement is made much easier with the release of a powerful new thermocouple input board for PCs from ComputerBoards, announced by UK distributor Adept Scientific.
The board comes with free software for reading temperature data directly into an Excel spreadsheet.
The new 16-channel DAS-TC, available in both PCI and ISA bus versions, accepts seven different thermocouple types (J, K, E, T, R, S and B), and reads temperature in either degrees Centigrade or Fahrenheit.
An on-board microprocessor handles all control and mathematical functions including cold junction compensation (CJC), automatic gain and offset calibration, and thermocouple linearisation, so it makes few demands on the user's PC processor.
Fully isolated analogue input protects the PC against common mode voltages up to 500V, and an on-board integrating converter, which features user-selectable integration time, keeps noise from the AC power line to a minimum, eliminating a common cause of error.
The DAS-TC is supplied with a screw terminal board that incorporates an isothermal block and CJC sensor as well as a five-foot shielded cable, and is supported by ComputerBoards' powerful Universal Library driver software. Third party data acquisition software packages such as LabVIEW and HP-VEE are also supported, but for users who simply want to read data directly into an Excel spreadsheet, ComputerBoards' DAS-Wizard software is supplied free of charge with every DAS-TC board.
