The latest addition to the ComputerBoards range of PCI interface multi-function boards, the PCI-DAS1000, breaks new ground in price/performance, according to UK distributor Adept Scientific. The PCI-DAS1000 series are true plug-and-play, analogue and digital I/O boards that feature auto-calibration, so users can set up and configure a board via software in seconds.
PCI-DAS1000 boards are available from as little as œ310 ex-VAT.
The PCI-DAS1000 board is completely plug-and-play.
All board addresses, interrupt channels etc.
are set by the host PC's plug-and-play software - there are no switches, jumpers or potentiometers to set.
Even calibration is performed via software using on-board digital potentiometers and trim D/A converters. Unlike some boards that use software lookup tables for post-acquisition error correction, PCI-DAS1000 data is accurate when written into the PC's memory.
The input mode is also software selectable, with no switches or jumpers to set.
The calibration factors that control the digital trim components are stored in hardware on the board.
Remove the board from one computer, install it in another, and it will still provide calibrated data.
Standard calibration techniques require a channel to be calibrated with zero volts input (offset calibration) and with a known input voltage (gain calibration). The PCI-DAS1000 provides on-board circuitry that will short the inputs allowing offset calibration, and then connect the inputs to an ultra-stable, on-board voltage reference for the gain calibration.
Auto-calibration means you can set up the board in the software with a click.
The PCI-DAS1000 offers 16 single-ended or 8 differential 12-bit analogue inputs with sample rates up to 250 KHz, 24 bits of digital I/O, and three 16-bit down counters. The boards provide a 250kHz maximum sample rate in single and multichannel scans at any gain setting, and a 1024 sample FIFO assures data taken from the board is transferred into computer memory without the possibility of missed samples.
The PCI-DAS1000 boards are fully supported by a wide variety of applications software packages including Agilent VEE, Labtech Notebook, LabVIEW and DAS-Wizard, an Excel add-in that allows you to collect data to a spreadsheet.
InstaCal, an easy to use installation, calibration and test program, is included with each board.
The boards are also supported by ComputerBoards' powerful Universal Library, a complete set of I/O libraries and drivers for all Windows-based languages.
With Universal Library, the syntax remains constant when you switch boards or even programming languages.
