MolecularNature has purchased Structure Elucidator from Advanced Chemistry Development, to aid its researchers in phytochemical compound discovery
MolecularNature (MNL) has purchased Structure Elucidator from Advanced Chemistry Development (ACD/Labs), to aid its researchers in phytochemical compound discovery.
Structure Elucidator enables scientists to determine the chemical structure for unknown compounds using nearly any combination of experimental input data, including 1H and 13C NMR, 2D NMR, MS, and IR, along with information from elemental analysis.
The powerful software package reduces the time spent on manual elucidations from several days to hours or minutes, and is capable of producing a range of possible structures that might otherwise be overlooked. MNL was first introduced to Structure Elucidator in March of this year when it submitted data for a compound to the Structure Elucidator Challenge, an online challenge available to any company with structural elucidation problems and an interest in how ACD/Labs' elucidation software works.
Since January of 2003, ACD/Labs has received over 16 data sets from companies, including MNL, and has achieved a 100% success rate in the results.
ACD/Labs answered MNL's challenge with a structure for its compound, and a report outlining how the solution was obtained.
Impressed with the results, MNL studied the software further and determined the benefits it would bring to its phytochemical research.
Hadyn Parry, CEO of MolecularNature, states, "Our evaluation demonstrated the cost effectiveness of Structure Elucidator.
"We already elucidate many novel structures arising from our proprietary and collaborative drug discovery programs, but this software will allow MNL's experts to increase the rate significantly, to the benefit of our partners".
Antony Williams, VP of scientific development and marketing at ACD/Labs, adds, "Structure Elucidator is being applied on a daily basis to the solution of problems which have tested even the best NMR spectroscopists in the world.
"We are pleased that MolecularNature recognises the immense benefits this software will bring to their own elucidation challenges."
