In the newly published method, reversed-phase HPLC is used to separate proteins by hydrophobicity, while a bioanalyser together and microfluidics chip analyses the sample based on protein size
Agilent Technologies Europe announced a method for improved protein characterisation stemming from synergies between its lab-on-a-chip and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) products.
To promote the value of combining these products for protein analysis, Agilent is offering a 15% discount to customers purchasing an Agilent 2100 bioanalyser combined with a Protein LabChip kit of choice and Agilent 1100 series LC system (including pump, autosampler and detector) between 1 April and 30 September 2003.
In the newly published method, reversed-phase (RP) HPLC is used to separate proteins by hydrophobicity, while the 2100 bioanalyser - together with the Protein 200 Plus LabChip - efficiently analyses the sample based on protein size.
The use of these orthogonal methods together distinguishes contaminants that would otherwise have remained unidentified, improving the quality and reliability of purification and protein identification.
Both the Agilent 2100 bioanalyser and the Agilent 1100 series HPLC are market-leading instruments commonly used for protein analysis, purification and characterisation.
Since its introduction three years ago, the Agilent 2100 bioanalyser and LabChip kits, co-developed with Caliper Technologies, have been established as the market-leading microfluidics-based system for analysing RNA, DNA, proteins and cell fluorescence.
In this application, the 2100 bioanalyser not only determines protein masses faster and easier than conventional SDS-Page, but also serves as a complementary analytical method to RP-HPLC.
The Agilent 1100 series is an industry-leading HPLC system and covers a flow range from nanoliters to 100ml/min.
The system is an extremely precise and reliable tool for separating proteins and peptides by means of RP, ion exchange or size-exclusion chromatography.
