For over a decade, researchers in the Nephrology Department at the University of Wales College of Medicine have relied exclusively on the BD Falcon brand for the plastic labware used in their work.
"BD Falcon labware gives, without doubt, the best reproducibility," said Nick Topley, a senior lecturer in cellular and molecular biology currently researching basic inflammation mechanisms.
"Over the years we've compared with every other manufacturer's plastic but have never been persuaded to change." He singles out the BD Falcon tissue culture inserts in particular: "Their conical design is especially suited to our purposes since gravity prevents cells going upwards through a liquid gradient, " he explains " and these inserts are definitely the easiest to use." One of the main areas of Dr Topley's interest at present is research into apoptosis.
In this work he uses a large number of reagent products from BD Biosciences and is very happy with the quality of customer service and application support he receives: "We've built a good relationship over time and, for the last few years, have had fantastic support."
