The Genomics and Genotyping Core Facility at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford has been evaluating the efficiency of BD Titanium TAQ DNA Polymerase as part of a drive to provide a high throughput genotyping service to the Centre's researchers.
Head of the Facility, Dr Ioannis Ragoussis, explained: "We provide a service to 250 researchers working in many disease areas and we use a number of methods to do this, including a novel genotyping system based on mass spectrometry." Research assistant, Aaron Abbott, is responsible for this new genotyping service and he explained: "I've been testing BD Titanium TAQ DNA Polymerase against a number of leading brands and have found it works extremely well, even at very low concentrations.
Our efficiency rate and throughput levels are excellent and we produce up to 20,000 genotypes a day." Dr Ragoussis concluded: "The plan for this Facility is to move on to even higher throughput genotyping and faster linkage analysis.
This will help us to achieve the main aim of the centre - to better understand the mechanisms behind genetic diseases and thereby find treatments and possibly cures."
