Kit helping to save time isolating and purifying proteins on project to develope protein microarrays for small molecule detection
Tony Cass's group at the Department of Biological Sciences at Imperial College has recently started using the BD Talon Cell-Thru protein purification kit to save time isolating and purifying proteins.
Post-doctoral research associate Nathan Hobson explained: "An on-going research project is developing protein microarrays for small molecule detection for various applications and in the process have developed many protein variants.
Having to spin down the cell debris from the protein supernatant can be one of the most laborious, inefficient and time-consuming stages of protein purification, but BD Talon Cell-Thru can help us by-pass this stage, saving time and money. The cobalt resin is very quick and easy to use and has a superior chelating affinity over nickel, giving complete histidine-binding within a few minutes.
Its colour indicator properties are also extremely handy during the elution stage when using imidazole. The resin turns from pink to violet on complete protein elution and then back to pink when the imidazole has been removed ready for re-use." Nathan concluded: "I was also very impressed with the BD Biosciences scientific sales specialist, Tooran Shahbazi.
She was helpful and attentive in her service - not at all pushy as some representatives can be - and went out of her way to provide us with information."
