Vitana has released the PixeLink PL-A642 megapixel FireWire camera, a compact, high resolution digital camera encased in a rugged yet lightweight magnesium casing
The PL-A642 has been designed specifically for digital microscopy.
Scientists and other users of microscopes increasingly want to view and save images in a computer environment.
The PL-A642 does this in an easy and cost effective manner.
The PL-A642 image streams at video rates and capture still images at 1.3-megapixel resolution.
This allows the pathologist or lab technician to view slides quickly and locate the area of the slide they wish to capture at high resolution. The PL-A642 FireWire (IEEE 1394) digital interface simplifies installation and eliminates the need for framegrabbers.
One FireWire cable can manage power distribution, PC-based control and real-time isochronous video streaming capabilities of the attached PL-A642 camera.
Features include: Flexible and full-feature CMOS image sensor with high resolution 1.3 megapixel array; up to 9.3 fps at 1280 x 1024 pixels; PixeLink camera application and API provide controls for: gamma correction, signal gain, exposure time; imager subwindow size and position. The device also features image flip and mirror; choice of 8-bit or 10-bit data and data rate; and support of third party software applications via three industry standard software interfaces (DirectShow, Twain, and QuickTime) The PL-A642 mounts to any microscope and can operate on either a desktop or laptop computer under Windows and Mac environments.
