Bio-Rad's informatics division invites software and database developers worldwide to apply for inclusion of their products within the KnowItAll environment
Bio-Rad Laboratories has announced its Bio-Rad informatics KnowItAll Software development and distribution programme.
With the launch of this programme, Bio-Rad's informatics division formally invites software and database developers worldwide to apply for possible inclusion of their products within Bio-Rad's unique KnowItAll software environment if they see a potential fit.
Bio-Rad's KnowItAll informatics system offers a fully integrated environment for cheminformatics and multiple analytical techniques, such as NMR, IR, MS, Raman, GC, NIR, and drug discovery.
The structure of this environment is unique in that it is designed so the user can easily transfer data from application to application without having to leave the main interface or open another program.
As laboratory needs change and grow, this open architecture also allows for the addition of new software from Bio-Rad or third party providers. The KnowItAll Software Developer's Kit (SDK), created last year, offers the ability to add new software applications to the KnowItAll software environment that are fully integrated.
Bio-Rad has already had success with third-party software collaborations in 2002 with the integration of Iupac naming and in 2003 with the inclusion of advanced proton prediction and ADME/Tox applications into the KnowItAll software environment.
Ty Abshear, head of Bio-Rad informatics division's research and development, comments, "Integration using the SDK has been seamless thus far and our team looks forward to working with future development teams who wish to collaborate with us." The SDK comes with detailed documentation, sample code, and a help system integrated into Microsoft's Visual Studio.
With the launch of the new KnowItAll Software development and distribution programme, Bio-Rad is also working on an extranet site to communicate with those who join the program.
The programme will combine the SDK with streamlined business development processes to facilitate rapid development of new applications for the KnowItAll environment and distribution through Bio-Rad's extensive sales and marketing channels.
Terms for use of the SDK and participation in the programme are subject to negotiation with Bio-Rad.
