Despite the apparent gloom and doom about recession and economic downturn, the jobs market in the laboratory sector is said to remain very bouyant
Since January this year, laboratory employers are still looking to recruit - in a lot of cases because they are expanding their team due to business growth.
Areas which are particularly buoyant include biotech, diagnostics, and healthcare, says recruitment consultant Delta.
There remains a skills shortage in all areas, with people fairly reluctant to change jobs.
If they do, there needs to be a very good reason - basic salary is not always the prime motivator.
Good employees need to be attracted by the whole package, with pensions and share options being attractive.
More employers are giving the choice of a car allowance rather than providing a car - for tax reasons.
Employers are willing to wait to get the right people, and in some cases this can take many months.
However Delta Consultants always advises that it is better to wait, than to be tempted to take second best and regret it later: "The old adage people are your greatest asset still holds true."
